Scholarship for Indian Students for Studying in Higher Educational Institutes of Oman

 Ministry of Higher Education of Oman is offering six (6) educational scholarships for Indian students for pursuing higher studies in Oman during the academic year 2017-2018 under the Omani Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation. Interested candidates may submit filled application form, alongwith all the documents mentioned therein, to the Embassy of India, Muscat by 31 October 2017

Eligibility and Conditions of Acceptance:

1. Eligibility: 

  • Sharia Institute: 65% in 10+2 
  • Higher Technical Colleges: 75 % in 10+2 
  • Colleges of Applied Sciences: 75 % in 10+2 
  • Financial and Banking Studies Colleges:  70 % in 10+2 
  • Sultan Qaboos University Colleges, requires the candidate to have minimum marks for the subjects of specialization for each programme.
  • Private Higher Studies Institutions: 80 % in 10+2 

      Proof of marks obtained by the candidate in the General Secondary Certificate / Higher Education Diploma / + 2 is to be attached. 

     The candidates nominated for Arabic Language Programme in the Government and Private Higher Education Institutions, has to obtain a minimum of 80 % marks in the Arabic Language. 

2.    General Secondary Certificate (Higher Education Diploma) issued out of Oman are to be equalized from Ministry of Education of Oman. In case this is not provided, the application will not be considered by the Ministry. 

3.    Applicants should not exceed the age of candidate 25 years as on 1/10/2017.

4.    There will be the following allowances to the accepted candidate: 

         R.O. 200 = $ 518, being pocket money + boarding + accommodation and transportation. 

      Free treatment in the Government hospitals, except dental and the treatment charges related with road accidents, for those who are having uninsured vehicles or driving without having the driving license or like that. 

      Two way Air ticket once in a year.

5.     Students residing in Oman, and obtained the scholarship under the Omani Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation will enjoy all the benefits, except monthly allowance and air ticket. 

6.     The scholarship offered under this programme covers:

a)    Different Engineering specializations.

b)   Different administrative and IT specializations.

c)    Different language and arts specializations.

7.    The scholarship not covers medical or paramedical specializations.

8.     The student obtained the scholarship will not be permitted to change educational institution or the education programme, for which he is accepted. 

9.     Duration of study will be 5 years, including preparatory programme.

10. The student is permitted to extend two educations sessions, in case the conditions of extension in fulfilled.

11. The student has to abide by the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and the educational institution.

Scholarship Programme For Diaspora Children (SPDC)

The Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) for the academic year 2017-18 is being launched on 17 July 2017 and the last date of submission of application online is 30.09.2017. The online portal for the scheme is www.spdcindia.gov.in.

2.         SPDC is available to Children of NRIs/PIOs/OCIs in 66 countries for undergraduate programmes. The scheme is applicable to the following four categories:

a) Children of Persons of Indian Origin

b) Children of Non-Resident of Indians

c) Children of Indian workers working in ECR countries studying abroad &

d) Children of Indian workers in ECR countries – studying in India.

3.         Of 150 scholarships under SPDC, 50 are reserved for category (c) and (d) above. To bring further clarity in the eligibility criteria, some changes have been made in the guidelines w.e.f 2017-18, which are mentioned below:

I.         Children of PIO/OCI/NRI who have not passed the qualifying examination (12th) from a foreign country except in the case of children of ECR country workers (category d above), are not eligible for SPDC.

II.         Cut-off date to decide the NRI status is last date of the preceding financial year i.e. 31.03.2017.

III.        Applicants should attach the conversion scale so that grade achieved in qualifying exam (Grade 12th) could be converted into percentage of marks achieved, wherever required.

IV.        For income proof, in addition to the salary certificate from the employer, an undertaking that total monthly income of both the parents does not exceed US$ 4000 should also be uploaded in the SPDC portal.
