The Embassy of India in Muscat with the support of Ministry of Culture, Government of India is organizing a ‘Festival of India in Oman’ during November 2016 to March 2017.

The Festival will comprise Indian ballet and Folk dances, Indian instrumental Music, an exhibition of Indian calligraphy, Food Festival and Fashion Show. The Festival is being organized with a view to present to the people of Oman glimpses of Indian Culture, representing diverse traditions of Indian heritage. The events will be held in Muscat and three other major cities of Oman i.e. Salalah, Sur and Sohar.

India and Oman have strengthened their centuries old civilizational links and the historical socio-economic relations which have since evolved into a strategic partnership. The time-tested people-to-people contacts and intense cultural cooperation are sustained and nurtured by the vibrant Indian expatriate community in Oman with its rich and diverse cultural heritage, traditions, language, dance, music, costume, cuisine, etc. Bollywood films, celebrity artistes, cultural troupes, myriad performers and singers continue to enthrall Indian and Omani audiences alike. Moreover, the beautiful Omani landscapes provide shooting locales for Indian producers. These new and emerging areas of cooperation make for enhanced people-to-people interaction between our two countries.

The inaugural event of the ‘Festival of India in Oman’ is being organised at the most iconic venue in Oman – the famed Al Bustan Palace Hotel on 15 November 2016. The tentative schedule of the above festival is given below:

(i) Indian Ballet Dance (Hritaal Troupe from Kolkata), November 15-19, 2016

(ii) Islamic Calligraphy Exhibition, (Rampur Raza Library), 21st November – 3 December, 2016

(iii) Indian Instrumental Music ( Padmashree Dr Soma Gosh), January 24-28, 2017

(iv) India Folk Dance and Music from Jammu & Kashmir, (North Zone Cultural Center) February 10-14, 2017

(v) Indian Food Festival, ITDC at Grand Hyaat, March 2017

(vi) Indian Traditional Fashion Show, National Institute of Fashion & Technology March 2017
