Embassy of India, Muscat in association with Raja Yoga commemorates the 157th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and U.N. International Day of Non-Violence
A special programme was hosted at the Embassy premises on 02 October, 2026 celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy of peace, truth and non-violence. The event brought together dignitaries, members of the Indian community and friends of India for an evening of reflection, cultural performances and a renewed commitment to his values.
- The programme commenced with the national anthems of India and Oman, followed by a ceremonial candle-lighting. A soulful flute performance by Yousuf Al Foori set the tone for the evening, preceding the address by Ambassador Prashant Pise, who highlighted the continued relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence, addressing the current contemporary global challenges.
- The programme also featured a musical tribute by Haitham Mohammed Rafi, a message from the United Nations, and engaging performances by children, including a fancy dress presentation and a skit reflecting the ideals of peace and non-violence. The young participants also had the opportunity to interact with the Ambassador during a group photograph.
- A key highlight of the evening was a special session by Gopi Patel on the theme “The Courage of Peace: Non-Violence in a Fragmented World”. Through an insightful address and guided meditation, the session explored the relevance of inner peace, compassion and non-violence in fostering harmony in an increasingly divided world.
- The event served as a reminder of Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless message that peace and non-violence remain essential to building a more just, compassionate and harmonious world. His ideals continue to inspire generations across the globe and reinforce the importance of dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
