Indian Embassy organizes India@70 Quiz to celebrate 70 years of independence

Embassy of India, Muscat, in continuation of its celebration of 70 years of Independence of India, organized a Quiz Contest based on theme “India@70”. Over 200 persons, including 44 teams of 3 participants each from various linguistic wings of Indian Social Club, Oman, actively took part in the contest, which featured questions on India’s freedom struggle, contemporary history and achievements of India during the last 70 years and was aimed at making the participants aware of the progress India has made during seven decades since her independence. The “India@70” contest was organised and conducted by Mrs. Sushmita Gupta, a well-known poet, painter and MC.  The India@70 Quiz was won by ‘Royal Bengal Quizzer’.

In line with the Government of India’s decision to mark 7 decades of India’s independence with various celebrations leading up to 15th August 2018, the Indian Embassy in Muscat has been celebrating India @70 by organising a series of events since August 2017. It has already organised performances during August-September 2017 in Muscat as well as Nizwa, Salalah, Suhar, and Sur by a Kathak dance troupe, a Rajasthani Folk dance troupe and a semi-classical Carnatic Music group as well as New India Manthan. In coming months ending August 2018, the Embassy will organize more performances by a contemporary Indian dance group, a Theatre Festival, a Painting Exhibition, a Painting Competition, an Essay Competition, and a Seminar entitled India@70. Various Linguistic Wings of Indian Social Club as well as Indian Schools in Oman are also organizing various events in celebration of India@70.

The Indian community in Oman, like Indian diaspora elsewhere, has been making immense contribution towards development of India as well as Oman. The community is very keen to participate actively in celebration of India@70. The Government of India has recently launched a campaign to mobilise popular participation in the Mission to build a New India by 2022, when India will be celebrating 75 years of independence and Indian community has been enthusiastically discussing the changes India need to undertake to build an India of their dreams. The community has responded enthusiastically to PM’s call for ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ (Realization through Resolve) with a view to realize the mission of building a New India by 2022.
