Government of India has decided to extend the deadline for conversion of PIO Card to OCI card up to 30 June,2017. Existing PIO card holders are entitled to convert their PIO Cards to OCI Cards free of charge till 30th June,2017 It may be noted that for conversion of PIO Cards to OCI Card, only copies of Valid passport and Valid PIO Card of the applicant are to be produced. The procedure for filling the application online for conversion of PIO card to OCI Card have been posted at the Embassy’s website under “Consular Services”. OCI card holder will enjoy all rights and privileges available to NON resident Indians( NRIs) in financial, economic and educational fields except in the acquisition of plantation properties. There would be no visa requirement for travel to India and they would have to carry his/her existing passport along with Registration Certificate. The person so travelling would not be required to register with the FRRO/Police authorities for any length of stay in India. All facilities as available to children of NRIs for getting admission to educational institutions in India including Medical and Engineering Colleges, etc, under the general category.
