Exhibition of Indian and Omani Portraits & Paintings
at Omani Society for Fine Arts

Indian Embassy in Muscat has been organizing a series of cultural, economic and community events as part of celebration of 70 years of India’s Independence, including, dance and music performances, essay and quiz competitions, seminars and workshops with a view to highlight the journey of India as a nation since it independence in 1947. The Embassy will be organizing an Exhibition of Indian and Omani Portraits & Paintingsat Omani Society for Fine Arts,Muscat, from 07 November to 13 November, 2017, as part of these celebrations. The Exhibition is also dedicated to celebrate the 47th National Day of Oman and the Exhibition will have exhibits showcasing the high-level political exchanges between the two countries.

2.       India and Oman are linked by geography, history and culture and enjoy warm and friendly relations that are attributed to historical maritime trade linkages, intimacy of the Royal Family with India and the seminal role played by Indian community in building of Oman. Reflecting the importance of strategic relations between the two countries, there have been frequent visits at the highest level. Apart from visits of President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma (1996) and Vice-President Shri Krishna Kant (1999), Prime MinistersShri Rajiv Gandhi (1985), Shri P. V. Narasimha Rao (1993), Shri AtalBihari Vajpayee (1998) and Dr. Manmohan Singh (2008)have also visited the Sultanate. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said visited India in 1997. The Exhibition will have paintings showcasing high-level meetings during these visits.

3.       The maritime trade and cultural exchanges, spanning over 5000 years, between India and Oman, have led to intermingling of cultural traditions of the two countries as reflected in their crafts, textiles, cuisine, customs, etc. The Exhibition will contain paintings of Indian and Omani crafts to illustrate their common features.

4.       The Exhibition will consist of portraits of prominent Omani and Indian Leaders and paintings of Arts & Crafts of Oman and India, made by Indian artist, Mr. SedunathPrabhakar.  Besides, 30 paintings made by Indian artists, based in Muscat, depicting unique and representative places and people from 29 States and Delhi, the Capital City, of India, will also be on display in the Exhibition. The Exhibition will open on 07 November 2017 at 1930 hours and the exhibits will remain on display till 13 November 2017 at the premises of Omani Fine Arts Society and can be visited on all days from 08 to 13 November 2017 from 9am to 1.30 pm and 4.30 pm to 8pm.

5.     Mr. SedunathPrabhakar, who is presently based in Melbourne, is an inspired and well known Indian painter. He hails from Kerala state of India. He discovered his passion for art and painting in his early childhood. He began his career as a painter with painting of landscapes mainly using water colours.  Later he started experimenting with oil colours, in which he achieved great success.  His artistic innovation was widely recognized during his first solo exhibition held atChithram Art gallery in Kerala in 2001. From 1998 to 2003 he inspired countless persons by regularly displaying his paintings which depicted the history of Jain religion and culture in famous Jain temples across Gujarat.  He is a recipient of ‘Hemaprabhu guru’ awarded by Gujarat State Jain Senate.
6.       In 2015, he did a solo exhibition in Australia, showcasing portraits of fifty eminent Australians in one long fifty meter canvas, which took 1.5 years to complete. Mr. Sedunath is also a musician and a writer. He currently shares his knowledge and insights as an artist and musician with young Australian students at Kalakshetra Art and Music School, Melbourne.
7.     Mr. SedunathPrabhakar, inspired by the Leadership of H.M. Sultan Qaboosbin Said Al Said, the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Oman, the millennia old historical relations between India and Oman, and the common features reflected in the cultural traditions of the two countries, has made paintings of portraits of prominent Omani and Indian Leaders and paintings of Arts & Crafts of Oman and India for display in Oman.
8.       Mr. SedunathPrabhakar will be organizing a four day workshop on during 8-13 November from 9am to 12pm. Aspiring painters interested to participate in the workshop may register their names directly with Omani Fine Arts Society (telephone: 24694969). A batch of 15-20 painters will be selected by Omani Fine Arts Society. Materials will be provided at the venue.
