Celebration of National Unity Day in Oman

On the occasion of National Unity Day, an event was organized by the Embassy of India to commemorate the 146th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel on 31 October 2021. Sardar Patel was the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India and is also known as the Ironman of India. National Unity Day is celebrated every year by the Government and people of India to pay respect and commemorate his birth anniversary.

The event started with paying of floral tributes to Sardar Patel by Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Amit Narang and other dignitaries. Ambassador delivered a speech and talked about the life and contribution of Sardar Patel towards independence and national unity. Ambassador highlighted the indomitable spirit and deft diplomacy by Sardar Patel which ensured integration of more than 500 princely states into an integrated India after its independence.

Mr. Karanjeet Singh Matharoo, Vice Chairman, Indian Social Club and Shri P. Prabhakaran, Principal, Indian School Maabela also delivered speeches and highlighted Sardar Patel’s contribution in shaping modern India. It was followed by a short cultural dance performance and a patriotic song by students of Indian School Muscat.

All the officers and staff of Indian Embassy also took the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge’ on 31 October to work towards preservation and strengthening of unity, integrity and security of India.

Several other events were organized to celebrate National Unity Day in Oman. A quiz competition was launched by the Embassy, which saw enthusiastic participation. Indian School Ibri organized a virtual event on 31 October to celebrate National Unity Day. Indian Social Club, Salalah in association with the Embassy organized a “Indo-Oman Grand Cultural Night” to celebrate National Unity Day and Amrit Mahotsav on 29 October. A virtual poetry recitation was also organized on 29 October by Poetry & Literary Group International (PLG) in association with the Embassy to celebrate National Unity Day.
