Indian Embassy celebrates 73 rd Republic Day of India

Embassy of India, Muscat, celebrated the 73rd Republic Day of India on 26 January 2022 with patriotic zeal and fervour.

A flag hoisting ceremony was organized in the morning at Embassy premises. Shri Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, unfurled the Indian Flag, in the presence of members of the Indian Community and Embassy officials, which was followed by singing of National Anthem. Ambassador read out excepts from the address of the President of India to the Nation. Students of Indian School Darsait (ISD) presented two patriotic songs adding to the sense of pride in the celebrations.

Embassy’s Republic Day reception in the evening was graced by Her Excellency Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim bin Said Al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research & Innovation as Chief Guest. The event was also attended by H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Isa Al Harthy, Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs, Foreign Ministry, Members of Majlis Dawla and Majlis Shura, Chairperson and Members of the Oman-India Friendship Association, other senior Government officials, Ambassadors resident in Muscat as well as distinguished members of Omani & Indian community.

In his remarks at the event, Ambassador Shri Amit Narang extended warm greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik and noted that India will be a ready partner in the realization of His Majesty’s ‘Oman Vision 2040’.

Two rare exhibits showcasing the rich shared past of India and Oman were jointly unveiled during the event by the Chief Guest and the Ambassador. The exhibits have recently arrived at National Museum of Oman from India on loan and they shall be on display for three months.

A riveting classical dance performance showcasing the cultural diversity of India enthralled the audience. An added attraction were two ‘Selfie with India’ corners enabling the attendees to experience the architectural wonders of India.

The event was conducted in full compliance of all COVID related protocols put in place with the Supreme Committee.
