Welcome Remarks by Ambassador Amit Narang

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Friends,

Good evening,
Assalam-Aleykum,
Namaskar,

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome in Oman on your behalf Shri Jaggi Vasudev ji or as he is more popularly known as ‘Sadhguru’.

A spiritual master, venerated Guru, thinker, speaker, wise counsel and environmental champion, ‘Sadhguru’’s work over the past 2 decades has spanned an enormous range of work - from guiding a path to human consciousness, channeling an inner engineering for self discovery and realization, promoting social harmony and universal tolerance, raising awareness on pressing environmental issues as well as fostering a better and more humane society.

In doing so, he has touched millions of lives all around the world, an outreach that is reflected in his rock star popularity across nations and cultures.

Sadhguru, a warm welcome to you in Oman on behalf of all these wonderful people – Indians and Omanis - who have come to meet you.

At the outset, I would like to place on record our deep appreciation for the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for their generous support to the ‘Save Soil’ movement and organizing this iconic event.

Friends,

Few issues should be as obvious for urgent collective human action, as that of soil health. Yet, no issue is perhaps more neglected.

While Air and Water do get their share of attention, soil quite literally remains under our feet, unseen, unheard and taken for granted.

Yet, as Sadhguru will tell us, the ground is slipping away from under humanity and if urgent action is not taken to preserve, conserve and nurture the soil that nurtures us, it may well be too late.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A good leader they say, is one who doesn’t just talk, but walks the talk. Sadhguru in his characteristic way, has gone one step further.

He has not just walked the talk, he has ‘motorbiked’ the talk!

Over the past 66 days, he has biked across 26 countries as a solo bike rider covering over 30,000 kms. In doing so, he has touched over 2 billion lives.

A feat of enormous human endurance, and a journey of immense global significance.

It is indeed fitting that his remarkable global road journey is concluding in this blessed land of Oman.

For millennia, Oman has been at the cross roads of human civilization, not just geographically, but also culturally. An essential characteristic of this nation that makes its people so broad and open-minded, culturally confident and cosmopolitan, and ever welcoming and kind.

It is also fitting that this remarkable journey is taking place as India is celebrating 75 years of its independence.

Indeed, what could be a better celebration of 75 glorious years of this great nation than its most famous Yogi traveling the world with a message of peace, a message of action, on an issue that truly unites us as one humanity.

For India of course, there are few countries as close and few relationships as special as the one with Oman.

India-Oman friendship today has a new marker in welcoming in Sadhguru, a messenger of peace and a torchbearer for soil.

Sadhguru, we are all eagerly awaiting to listen to you.

May I invite you on to the stage.

Thank you.
Namaskar.
